I’ve written before about how the National Gallery of Art is a great place to avoid the tourists on busy days. In fact, it’s our favorite place on the mall. But getting the kids to agree to a day at an art museum is no small feat.
Enter NGA First Saturdays. Kids might dislike art museums, but they love craft. Sometimes it seems it’s all they do. So organizers at the Galleries decided to open their East Building atrium to kids and supply light guidance to help kids understand the techniques that famous artists use to create their works.
There are also free films and a variety of special pop-up activities. Sometimes they recommend you register in advance, but we’ve never been turned away without a ticket.
